Personally, I Love It When The Chips Are Down

I'm afflicted with the fever for the flavor of a bendy chip. You know what I mean, the coveted folded over potato chip that you ransack the entire bag in pursuit of; casting away the less meaningful regular slices that are only second class potato chip citizens in your view. There is no known cure for this addiction and sadly, try as you may, it's virtually impossible to eat just one.

Buying a new bag of potato chips used to bring tense conflict into our household as we all rivaled each other in fierce competition to be the bendy chip victor. Many a battle cry of, "Your bendy chip is belonging to me," could be heard echoing throughout our kitchen in the days before we reached a final and solvent bendy chip truce.

Looking to keep the peace with the woman who cooks and cleans for them, Papi and my young offspring have elected to sacrifice their share in the bendy chip game to keep me happy. Smart move. Lay's makes a superb Kettle Cooked potato chip product that yields many more bendy spoils than your average bag of ruffled ridge chips. The jalapeno flavor is our favorite because we're spicy like that. I always end up eating way more than a normal sized portion because my kids excitedly pull out all the bendy chips and pile them on a plate just for me! They explore the outer reaches of the bag in search of bendy chip treasures untold just like little mini-Indiana Jones' and "The Chip Bag Of Doom." They squeal with unadulterated glee when they pull out their greasy fingers clutching the rare bendy chip marvel to end all bendy chip marvels........ the Siamese Twin and sometimes Siamese Triplet chip. One slice of folded crunchy goodness wrapped snugly around another one. The crunch that dreams are made of. Even when I'm totally stuffed, it's an offer I just can't refuse. Besides, I hate to see my children's disappointed little faces if I reject the chips that withstood their rigorous screening process.

Any guests that come to our house should know right now that when I pour the chips out into our ginormous authentic Tupperware serving bowl, the bendy ones are automatically plucked out and devoured on the spot. Bendy chip search and recovery is futile in the Infidel home. If loving bendy chips is wrong, then I don't wanna be right.

I, too love bendy chips so I, too would be at war over them. Only all this time I didn't know their nomenclature. Bendy chips. Life will never be the same at the Canuck household.

I like bendy chips, too, but not quite to that degree.

How can you fill a bowl while eating chips? If it were me, the bowl would never get full if I let myself even start eating the chips.

Mmmm, bendy chips. I never buy chips because I would eat them, and that would be bad.

Is that what they're called? The bendy chip does indeed rule over all other chippiness varieties. I also like that one gigantic one you will get in Ruffles sometimes, the one larger than your hand and approximating your face.

Wanna hear my freaky snackin' secret? I snap the regular shaped chips in half, stack 'em up in a big pile, and then crunch into them. Mmmm...crunchilicious.

Of course, that's not quite as freaky as brainwashing your family into supporting you in your snack fetish.

I love Kettle Cooked potato chips!, love them...LOVE.THEM.
They are so crunchy and potatoey.
I love the triplet chip.

The mom gets to make the rules, while everyone else drools.

Bendy chips are whack. I prefer the normal chips, they allow for maximum taste dispersion

Now I've read it all. Who knew that there was such a term as "bendy chip"? I'll never eat potato chips the same way again.

Pickle chips. These are the best side to a sand. You don't need to add pickles to your sandwich because the chips have pickle flavor. Yum. Try it and thank me later.

Bendy chips? Amazing! You can write about anything and make it interesting. I'm so impressed (and envious).

So what do you like the best about the bendies? Is it the sound they make when they crunch? I'm going to have to pay attention now....

OK, I tried the pickle chips not too long ago, and they were really puckery. And no one else in my family liked them, so I was stuck eating them myself until I got sick of them.

I too adore bendy chips, but you know what they need to create next? Bendy cookies. That's something I would like to get to know well.

I am not a potato chip officianado, but I will in the future look for the bendy chip.

Once again you have enlightened me on the true meaning of a simple experience.

My new love of my life is Pringles Select Paramsan and Garlic chips. Very Very good and they are new so they are kind of hard to find but totally worth it.

That is my favorite Howard Jones song, love it.

If I were a guest at your house we could have a showdown. Because I have the fastest hands in the west when it comes to bendy chips.

I'm also a little weird that way when it comes down to the squishy french fries.

Your blog is too deep for me. I don't think I can fathom the existential complexities of thought brought on by the bendy chip treatise. I'll have to finish my PhD just to keep up.

Love the title by the way.

I'm so totally NOT ignoring all of you. It's just that life got super craaaaaazy this week. Then yesterday a quick morning thunderstorm knocked out our Internet for most of the day. I resigned myself to cleaning up my hellhole of a front yard that I let completely go of this winter because I didn't have any money for fresh plants. I still don't have any money for spring flowers but at least we weeded, mowed, raked, sweated, argued, chased each other with the hose, saw a snake, pretended to give hair cuts to each other with the gigantic shrub clippers, talked about getting "stoned" with the landscpaing rocks, bent our butts over while weeding for all passing cars to have to witness, head banged to Finnish fusion rock group KWAN while outside, got bitten my many ants, I broke the crotch of my pants while turning a cartwheel. Yes, we accomplished many things yesterday.

Here's the deal with chips. My Papi says that excess grease is trapped into those little bendy pockets making it not only extra crunchy but also super artery clogging greasy. And that, my fine blogging friends is probably the real reason why I enjoy the bendy chip so much. It's a veritable grease feast! I'm waiting for the day that scientific technology will reveal a breakthrough allowing chip manufacturers to make entire bags full of nothing but bendy chipped goodness. I'm salivating at the thought.
