I'm Old As Dirt And Dirt Poor, Too

Do you know what happens when you start getting old? You give up the pretentious music snob act and just admit that you groove to Herb Alpert and the lusty sounds of his Tijuana Brass Band. You finally admit that you own Tony Orlando's Greatest Hits CD and can croon every single line of 'Knock 3 Times.' And for some cruel and unknown reason you admit that you can't stop thinking about Chuck Mangione 25 years past his music prime.

Chuck Mangione-Give It All You Got

This song is dedicated to fellow moldy oldie, Millie, who surprisingly enough has never heard of it despite having renditions performed by Leon Russell, Charlie Rich, Dwight Yoakam, and Elvis Presley. I kept singing one of the main lines from the song all last week.....last week when I was still a sprightly 33! It goes "My heart keeps telling me, you're not a kid at 33." Ain't that the truth, Danny.

Danny O'Keefe- Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues

If you need me I'll be over at the Regal Beagle with my Macrame Mamas Club where I'll be showing off pictures of my newly decorated home that features a mushroom motif and all new harvest gold appliances. Shazam!

Oh my heavens!! I used to play Good Time Charlie's on my accordian type organ thing (it was orange) that I got one year for Christmas!!
Me and Mrs. Roper used to hang out at the Regal Beagle all the time.

Ps. Jack really wasn't gay.

Not so much on the harvest gold appliances, though.

Unfortunately I have Alzheimers & can't remember a thing:( I can only dream of the days (long past) when I was 33 or 34!

Oh wait! I just had a flashback of being in 5th grade and making a macrame plant holder/hanger thing! I loved that stuff!

I can't say I have ever heard either of those... Sadly I caught myself singling along to a Mylie Cyrus (or however you spell her name) song the other day... the shame.

Those were the days. I literally saND out loud, "on the ceiling if you want me." Should I even be telling you that?

Being dirt poor has it's perks. You don't feel obligated to give money you don't have. Or you can say you are walking for exercise when you can't afford to put gas in the car. Even better you can say you are just helping the environment. I just hope no one sees the ambulance come get me when I pass out from actually exercising;)

Hmmm... I have no idea who you are talking about. I feel lost. Of course, that's normal... did you get your good mail yet?

i know every word to knock three times but only because it is on the soundtrack for some teenage movie i watched when i was younger. ...can't remember the name of it. but it had christina ricci in it. anyway, you're a musical genius..i was too embarrassed to admit that i had NO idea what song you were talking about when you referred to howard jones things can only get better.

I know the movie! Now and Then with Rosie O'Donnell and Melanie Griffith.

And I know exactly what you mean. It took being a grandma to admit that I could like Andy Williams and Maroon 5 and anybody else in between.

And I remember Tony O and Dawn. I watched their show.

As for the Regal Begal, I'd go but John is missing.

Holy poop, I totally missed this. Thanks for the linky.

Now I've finally heard the song - but don't think I won't be having nightmares about that lobster climbing the flagpole.

DUDE! I totally know that Chuck Mangione song!!! How weird to hear it again - it reminds me of going to the doctor's office when I was little. Probably the only time I could hear the radio.

Do you think Chuck and his trumpet were as annoying as Kenny G and his sax, back in the day?
