The Road To Recovery
I'm finally feeling a little better today. Rarely, do I take medication of any kind but I resorted to slurping down some cough syrup yesterday so I could get some sleep. Big mistake. It was a pediatric formula and didn't have dosing guidelines for fat 32 year olds. So, I guesstimated. And then I got dizzy, loopy, sleepy, and still had to go to work. It stopped my hacking temporarily and my runny nose permanently though. Houston is batting down the hatches for our first official winter storm of the year. What did I do in preparation? What I always do. Cook. I made this split pea soup in the crockpot and added a side of more beer bread. The doomsday weather forecasters are running around inciting fear in people, but at La Casa De Infidel, we're chillin. (Our heater broke so I mean chillin quite literally) I restocked the pantry with assorted goodies. Things don't look nearly as bleak when you have Oreo cookie rations. Ahhhh, eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die. At least we'll die happy and full!

Mmmmmm Soup...
"Houston" is expecting it's worst storm ever? There's something wrong with that sentence but I just can't quite put my finger on it...
MMMMMMMMMM soup is good food. Your soup looks yummy.
I am thining I will make chili tonight. The nice thing about cold weather is making delicious comfort foods.
Yum! Soup! I live in Houston... I'll be right over if the tiny little Miata can make it through on the icy roads... (your soup is probably safe)
Ah there's nothing like feeding the cold ewbl. That's my excuse anyway!
No one has said this yet:
Mmmmm soup....I'm first YAY!!
32? You can't be sick woman, you are waaaay to young to be sick! When I was your age I was jumping and dancing all over and we didn’t have those fancy cough syrup things you take.
I love the doomsday weather forecasters, our local news had a permanent feature "FIRST ALERT STORME TEAM FORECAST" all in caps, read and yellow. All. year. long.
Stay warm and souped up my dear Infidel.
Glad to see that you are on the mend and ready to hunker down through the Texan blizzard season!
sketchy- We'll forecasts of icy roads sends all us Texans into a panic. We're only equipped to drive through hurricane force winds. Winter weather confounds us.
on the run- Comfort food is nice when its cold. It would be nicer if we could all just hibernate for a few months afterwards.
carol- You'd have to fight for a bowl of soup with six ornery kids. Are you woman enough for that challenge? They're particularly fierce when hungry.
jams- I eat when I'm sad, happy, and hurt too. Sickness is just a better excuse.
NCS- Yeah, but back in your day you couldn't get sick or slow down because the dinosaurs would get you. Our weather people are ridiculous. More people died evacuating Houston for the "end of the world" hurricane than actually died in the hurricane. We didn't evacuate. I had a pantry full of Beefaroni cans and a heart full of prayer and hope.
THEO- Well, our winter season only last a few days of the year. I've lost my connection with my Viking heritage though and I don't handle the cold well.
Hope you're feelin' better. As usual, I'm late seeing what's been going on. Stay warm (our heater doesn't work, either) and keep the soup on! Yumm....
6 kids... Hmmmmmm... I'll give that some thought and I'll get back to ya. I'm pretty mean when I'm hungry too but they do seem to outnumber me.
Oh no! You haven't gotten your heater fixed yet? :( That really hoovers EWL.
That soup looks delish!!!
